The Greater Akron Area Chapter is the local chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Founded in 1969, AACN is the world’s largest specialty nursing organization with more than 70,000 members.
Greater Akron Area Chapter has adopted AACN‘s mission and vision for our chapter:
The Greater Akron Area Chapter recognizes that critically ill patients are cared for in a variety of settings such as ICU, CCU, PACU, ED, telemetry, medical-surgical, and home care. Registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and students are just a sampling of the diversity of practitioners that care for the critically ill. Our mission is to provide and inspire leadership, to establish work and care environments that are respectful, healing and humane. The chapter is committed to providing the highest quality resources to maximize nurses’ contributions to caring for and improving the healthcare of critically ill patients and their families.
The chapter has also established the following goals:
*To create opportunities for the professional growth and development of nurses working in acute and critical care settings through bimonthly meetings, educational programs, and chapter leadership positions.
*To provide networking opportunities for nursing professionals and students.
*To promote CCRN, PCCN, and CCNS certification by supporting interested members and by sponsoring review courses.
*To actively respond to community needs through outreach activities.
We are dedicated to creating a healthcare system driven by the needs of patients and families where critical care nurses make their optimal contribution.
